St albans car and van hire feel the force

Earlier this year the office received a rather odd phone call from a "Mr Vader" asking to hire a van from St Albans Car And Van Hire in support of  a brigade of stormtroopers planning to invade Redbourn.

However all was not as it first seemed. It turned out the call was really a Mr Rob Denehan who along with his wife Dee organized a campaign to raise funds for the East Common Project which aims to build a new play area.

Rob asked if we would be willing to donate one of our vans to assist with the events. With such a worthy campaign, and the possibility of repercussions involving a 'Deathstar' we felt we really should help out.

So it was, that a couple of weeks later Redbourn parish center was invaded by members of the 501st UK Garrison, an international Star Wars costuming group who came to show support for the campaign and allowing the local residents to meet the stars of Star Wars in the flesh.

A few days ago Rob Denehan was kind enough to email thanks for the donated van:

To Mark and everyone at St. Albans Car and Van Hire,

Thank you so much for your company's generous donation of the use of a van for our Star Wars fundraising event in Redbourn on the 2nd February.

The event was a great success with approximately £1100 being raised towards the East Common Project (www.eastcommonproject.co.uk) and a fun time was had by all.The Death Star photo backdrop looked stunning and it would not have been possible to transport it to the event without your support!

Here's some media from the day: http://m.dunstabletoday.co.uk/news/local/fundraising-villagers-really-feel-the-force-1-4755654 .The feedback we've had from the event has been amazing, so much so we are planning a follow up event 'Redbourn Strikes Back'!

Thanks again,

Rob Denehan
